Workshops reviews from inset and in-school workshops

“Recently at Shotton Hall School and Performing Arts College we were privileged to see the absolutely excellent work of Creative Lighting Design.  John Watson a director of the company brought his brilliant demonstration to the school. The students were absolutely mesmerized by what they saw and heard.

This was a lighting workshop with a difference and the students loved it.”

Ian Mowbray( Head Teacher) Shotton Hall School and Performing Arts College.

10th March 04   Colin Bibby  Training Manager Education Dept    St Peter Port  Guernsey ,writes,

"Sam Thompson  added this to his evaluation of the 2 days he spent with you:

"This course was the best experience of inset I have ever had."

I should have included Sam's final paragraph  too:

"John is full of useful ideas and observations - he is the most    knowledgeable and enthusiastic deliverer I have ever encountered in my   teaching career."

Wow!!

Regards   Colin Bibby

A record number of workshops has been given over the last year, it has  taken me from areas of Elgin, Scotland, to the windy shores of Brighton and Kent and Portland Bill and Guernsey .   Workshops have been given for  several education authorities this term,   to drama teachers during inset days, and hundreds of visits to students in the schools and even to 10 staff from the Museum of  Science& Industry, Manchester. and  as one teacher put it, "GOB SMACKED" by John Watson's  innovative "hands on" lighting workshops.

"Many thanks for the splendid course on 16th June for Hampshire Teachers
We really enjoyed the  day - it was inspiring. your enthusiasm and experience was so helpful
in making the teachers  feel able to tackle more complex lighting and effects.
You really made the light 'talk' and showed such simple yet stunning effects that make the
acting area come to life before a word or action has taken place.
I really hope that you now come to Hampshire schools on a regular basis in the future and run
more inset for me soon"

Best wishes

" 14 years of teaching + countless technical workshops, I feel more confident + knowledgeable in just 3 hours than all the rest put together!"

Jeanette Arnold Head of Drama South Wirral High School 14 January

"Brilliant! I've learnt so much and found it so exciting. I would love to do it again. One of the best if not the best!" Isabel Pepperill- Clarke Head of Art and Design Leicester College.

A recent comment from the Head of Drama St Michael's School, Chorley, Lancs:

"In my 23 years of teaching Drama I've yet to find a more interesting and creative way of

introducing GCSE pupils to Stage lighting."

Overheard by a teacher:

1st pupil: "he's good him, 'aint he?"
2nd pupil: "He's better than good, he's brilliant!"

"Excellent introduction, not only to the intricacies of theatre lighting, but to all aspects of theatre."

Pete Meakin, Associate Director of Education, Derby Playhouse.

Comments from Stocksbridge Steel Valley Drama group.

The group had a rehearsal last Saturday and shared the workshop experience with those not able to attend. A few comments:

"You missed a treat."
 "He really knew his stuff."
"It was entertaining and good to involve us."

"It's always good to meet somebody with such knowledge at his  fingertips."
"Impressive slides and powerpoint."
"I know our show won't have much lighting, but what will be there  will be helped by what John showed us."
"He held everybody's attention- young and old, male and female."

 "Very well organized."
"Made me want to do more on sets and lighting- fascinating.

The actors may be the visible ones, but the technicians are real  stars."

So there you have it- a fine and well-deserved response.

Thanks for  packing so much in such a short time.

Very best wishes
